The
Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Help
JACK FM and the Avon Walk
for Breast Cancer raise money for the fight against Breast Cancer on
April 12th and 13 by joining TEAM KRBE. Join the thousands of
Houstonians as they walk on April 12 and 13th.
For 2 days and 39 miles, you have the opportunity to dramatically
impact the lives of millions affected by breast cancer worldwide. By
participating in the Avon Walk, you'll allow medically under-insured
women and men to receive the screening, support, and treatment they
require. You can participate as a KRBE team member by registering as
a walker or crew member. All walkers raise at least $1,800 and have
the opportunity to walk up to a marathon and a half over two days;
crew members work the entire weekend supporting the walkers and have
no fundraising minimum. Take the first step. Register today!

Thousands of
Cyclists Ride Toward A Cure For MS Cyclists Gear Up for 24th
Annual BP MS 150 Houston-to-Austin Bike Tour Supporting
National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Lone Star Chapter
The cycle of greater good continues as more than 12,000
cyclists from 45 U.S. states and 21 foreign countries
prepare for the two-day, 180-mile ride from Houston to
Austin in the 24th Annual BP MS 150 the weekend of April 12
– 13, 2008. The goal is to raise $14 million to support
research to make this a world free of multiple sclerosis
(MS) and to fund programs through the National Multiple
Sclerosis Society, Lone Star Chapter.
The initial Houston-to-Austin MS 150 in 1985 attracted 237
cyclists who raised $117,000. Today, it has grown to 13,000
registered cyclists and an estimated 250 teams that raised a
record $13.5 million last year. These funds support
research and programs for the estimated 20,000 individuals
and their families affected by MS in 174 Texas counties of
the Lone Star Chapter. Throughout its history, the BP MS
150 has raised more than $75 million and has seen a steady
increase in fundraising levels of approximately $1 million
per year for the past eight years.
The BP MS 150 Bike Tour is the largest non-profit sporting
event in Texas and the largest event of its kind in North
America. Registration for the ride reached capacity in a
record 11 days. Nearly 1,500 riders registered in the first
24 hours, an increase of 185% compared to the prior year.
Like the 2007 BP MS 150, registration for the ride has been
limited to preserve the integrity of the Tour.
The camaraderie shared by cyclists, volunteers and
supporters is among the ride's greatest attributes. It
unites riders who are personally affected by MS or who ride
to raise awareness for the cause, all of whom share the
common goal to achieve a world free of MS.
Cyclists will begin the ride in Houston on Sat., April 12,
2008, and finish at the State Capitol in Austin on Sun.,
April 13, 2008, after an overnight celebration in La Grange.
Three starting points will be offered this year – West
Houston's Tully Stadium, Rhodes Stadium in Katy and the
inaugural start at Waller Junior High School Stadium in
Waller. On day two, riders can opt for one of two routes
out of La Grange as they make their way to Austin. A new
third start has been added this year from Smithville,
primarily to accommodate riders who overnight off site.
BP is the title sponsor for the Bike Tour through 2009 and
has hosted the largest team for the past six years, composed
of 750 members this year and a goal of $1 million. Since
2001, Team BP has raised more than $4.7 million, making them
the largest fund-raising team affiliated with the ride. BP's
seven- year partnership with the Lone Star Chapter has
generated more than $10 million in sponsorship dollars,
fundraising and marketing. BP now has teams participating in
MS 150s across the nation.
The BP MS 150 Bike Tour is one of three outstanding
fund-raising rides hosted by the National MS Society, Lone
Star Chapter in Texas. Other rides include the North Texas
SAM'S CLUB MS 150 Bike Tour, presented by Subway and Elk
Corp., from Frisco to Fort Worth on May 3 – 4, 2008, and
Bike MS: Valero Bike to the Beach, presented by H-E-B, from
San Antonio to Corpus Christi on October 4 – 5, 2008. All
three Texas rides are regarded by cyclists as the premier
rides in the state, with experienced management,
well-coordinated routes, and special attention to rider
safety and comfort. Visit
